SHERIFF THINKS HE CAN USE BOGUS DISORDERLY CONDUCT CHARGES TO SHUT DOWN SPEECH HE DOESN'T LIKE

This is stupid on every single level. First off, as former police officer and current attorney Greg Prickett points out in his post at Simple Justice, there's no way those charges would stick. Sheriff, that's political speech, and it's protected speech. You don't get to silence it because you don't like it, or even because it offends you, the District Attorney, or anyone else. The Disorderly Conduct statute in Texas is very clear on this.

Afghan Opium Production At Record High Despite British Troops Dying To Stamp It Out

Opium production in Afghanistan has almost doubled this year over 2016, according to a United Nations survey. As the Taliban returns to territory liberated by UK forces in 2001, the booming drugs industry is further proof the war failed in its basic aims.

One of the justifications given by former Prime Minister Tony Blair for Britain’s intervention in Afghanistan against the Taliban back in 2001 was to stop the production of opium poppies used to make heroin.

Women's Boobs Are Not Free Speech, Says Federal Court

To protect public health, safety, and morals, the government has an important interest in preventing women from going topless, a federal appeals court has ruled. And the importance of keeping lady breasts out of public view overrules any First Amendment or equal protection issues that such a policy raises.

But at least one dissenting judge felt differently, describing our topless protagonist as having "engaged in the paradigm of First Amendment speech—a public protest on public land in which the participants sought to change a law that, on its face, treats women differently than men."

Going topless might not be inherently expressive, "but to declare, as a matter of law, that it can never be expressive is the quintessence of throwing out the free-expression baby with the non-expressive-conduct bath water," Judge Ilana Rovner wrote.

Lebanon suffers intimidation attempts to cancel gas deal with Russia – Lebanese FM

Lebanese Minister for Foreign Affairs Gebran Bassil has said that there is currently an anti-Lebanon campaign in the Middle East, aimed at "intimidating" his country and forcing it to give up a joint gas project with Russia.

Beirut has faced certain difficulties in the course of its own efforts to “stabilize the region,” the Lebanese foreign minister said on Friday, ahead of his talks with Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov in Moscow. He revealed that, prior to the current crisis, Lebanon was "almost at a threshold of the first-ever contract to develop shale-gas fields with... Russian companies." However, a campaign to hinder the deal "under various pretexts" is now underway, he claimed.

The Truth About Why Saudi Arabia and Israel Are Really Working Together

“Russia’s carefully-calibrated weapons sales to the opposing Persian Gulf powers follows a pattern established by China over the past decade. China sells missiles to Iran as well as to the KSA, but it sells more advanced missiles to the Saudis, because the Saudis are the weaker of the two adversaries, and China wants to maintain the balance of power. Russia has been called a ‘spoiler’ in the Middle East so often that the term clings like a Homeric epithet. In recent weeks, Russian policy has shifted to classic balance-of-power politics.”[emphasis added]

China knows this, Russia knows this, and most importantly, Saudi Arabia knows this, too.

That is why on multiple occasions, Saudi Arabia has expressed its desire to “have the battle in Iran rather than in Saudi Arabia.”

Israel is nervous about the Syria ceasefire deal

Israeli leaders are worried about the ceasefire deal in southern Syria signed last weekend between the U.S., Russia and Jordan. That's because the deal will allow Iranian-backed forces to position themselves as close as 3.5 miles from the Israeli border in the Golan Heights. But they also think it sends an alarming signal about the Trump administration's policies.

The big picture: Israeli officials see the deal as a sign that the Trump administration is too eager to pull out of the Middle East, and not willing to back up its rhetoric about confronting Iran's negative regional behavior with action.

The back story: Since June, Israel has been following the negotiations between the U.S., Russia and Jordan on a deal to create “de-escalation" zones in southwest Syria — one of them on its northern border in the Golan Heights.

“But Judge Moore says he can’t ever remember signing his name with “D.A.” after it, but he had seen it before,” he explained. “You know where he had seen it? When he was on the bench, his assistant, whose initials are capital D period, A period, Delber Adams, would stamp his signature on documents and then put capital D period, A period. That’s exactly how the signature appears on the divorce decree that Judge Moore signed, dismissing the divorce action with Ms. Nelson.”

Western MSM ‘shocked’ at 60,000-strong nationalist march in Warsaw – but are they really?

The mainstream media coverage of the annual nationalist march in Poland was far more critical this year than on previous occasions. Considering how similar events were previously covered, analysts wonder if the change results from Brussels’s feud with Warsaw.

Something terrible happened last Saturday in Poland. A crowd of 60,000 neo-Nazis, fascists, white supremacists, far-right nationalists, anti-Semites and religious fanatics marched in the streets of the capital Warsaw in the biggest display of bigotry and hatred the world has seen in years. And like-minded radicals from all around Europe sent their delegations to the rally. And the Polish government not only failed to condemn this march of the right, but dared to call the event “beautiful.” The terror!

The Justice Department has a duty to consider a probe of the Uranium One sale

If crimes were committed to further Russia’s nuclear goals here, Americans need to know. And if Team Obama suspected that but still OK’d the Uranium One sale to a Russian firm, Americans deserve an explanation of that, too.

Yet Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ orders to prosecutors merely to see if a probe — perhaps headed by a special counsel — is warranted has critics in a lather.

No surprise there: The left fears a probe into Team Obama and the Clinton Foundation could taint Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, even if it turned up no damaging evidence. Worse, it could draw attention from the FBI investigation of Russian meddling in the 2016 election and possible collusion by President Trump’s campaign.

Zionism’s calm destruction of Palestine

Two stories reported by Haaretz on Wednesday underscore the unchanging goal of Zionism: the destruction of the Palestinians as a people and as viable communities, and the theft of their land for exclusively Jewish colonial settlement.

The first story reports on declassified minutes of cabinet meetings in the months after the 1967 war, when Israel occupied the West Bank and Gaza Strip, as well as Syria’s Golan Heights and Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula.

Israeli leaders were pondering how to deal with the hundreds of thousands of Palestinians newly under military occupation. It was already clear that the Israelis wanted the land but not the people who lived on it.

One of the “solutions” offered by Levi Eshkol, then Israel’s prime minister, was, effectively, to expel them.

Dubbed OnePlusLogKit by researchers, the app runs with system privileges and has access to user’s GPS logs, WiFI data, Bluetooth, NFC, photos, videos, and list of the running processes – All that without the user’s permission or knowledge.

This means while EngineerMode allowed an attacker to root the device; OnePlusLogKit lets attackers access personal data of OnePlus users. However, in this case, an attacker has to have physical access to the targeted device and then dial *#800# – click on “Get Wireless log.”

Congress Discloses Complete Number, Amount Of Harassment Settlements In Past 20 Years

While it's not surprising that 2007 - the year when spirits were high, housing prices had just hit a record and the financial bubble was about to burst but not yet- was a "swinging one" on the Hill, with a whopping 25 sexual harassment settlements, the most in the past 20 years, we wonder what happened in 2002 when only 10 settlements led to a near record $4 million in awards. This question was prompted by the first ever release of Congressional harassment records, unveiled yesterday for the first time by the Congressional Office of Compliance.

Below is the breakdown of settlement number by year since 1997...

Lavrov slams Haley’s remark about impossibility to reach Russia's envoy as fake diplomacy

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Friday branded US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley’s comment about the impossibility of reaching Russia’s UN envoy Vasily Nebenzya as ‘fake diplomacy.’
According to him, Haley was not telling the truth when she said that she was unable to get Nebenzya on the phone to agree on a draft resolution. "We have read all the reports provided by our New York mission - no such efforts were rejected. Experts held meetings, we clarified our stance and the Americans tried to use some cosmetic phrases, pretending that they had taken our concerns into consideration," Lavrov explained.

Judicial Watch: New Clinton Classified Emails Discovered

Judicial Watch today released 109 pages of new Hillary Clinton emails from her tenure as secretary of state. The documents include two email exchanges classified confidential and a 2011 exchange with Sid Blumenthal about “serious trouble for the Libyan rebels.”

The newly-produced emails were part of 72,000 pages of documents the FBI recovered last year in its investigation into Clinton’s use of an unsecure, non-government email system. The records include emails Hillary Clinton attempted to delete or did not otherwise disclose.

Two heavily redacted emails marked Classified Confidential included a November 2011 exchange under the Subject: “Egyptian MFA on Hamas-PLO talks,” and a June 28, 2011 email from Clinton to Abedin in which Clinton writes “I have now promised the Kuwaiti PM 3 times that I will deliver an address at the Oxford Islamic Center. Pls be sure that’s on the list for next Fall/next year.”

US hindering humanitarian aids from reaching Iran

Although The Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the US Department of the Treasury has apparently declared in an statement that the NGOs can render services to Iran in regard to rescue operation activities, as well as allowing donations to the country to relieve the sufferings of those affected by natural disasters, transfer of cash has been subject to special circumstances which permits a maximum 500,000 dollars to be transferred over the course of 12 months.

The statement requires the existence of special circumstances for the dispatch of cash even to non-commercial individuals or to a relative. However it is not yet clear how one can prove the special situation of the circumstances.

Despite all the difficulties, the Iranians living in the US are doing their best to devise innovative solutions to send their humanitarian supplies to the quake-hit areas in western Iran.

Russia’s TV channel refuse to broadcast 2018 Winter Olympics should Russia be discriminated

For the time being, Russia's three major TV channels - Channel One, Rossiya-1 (part of VGTRK) and Match TV (part of Gazprom Media) plan to broadcast Winter Olympics from South Korea. Yet, if the Russian national team is excluded from the Games, Channel One and Rossiya-1 will most likely refuse to broadcast the Olympics. Naturally, Russian people watch Olympic Games to support Russian athletes in the first place. If no Russian athletes take part in the Games, the audience of the major sports event of this winter will decease sharply, representatives of the above-mentioned channels say. It makes no sense for major channels to pay millions of dollars for the rights to broadcast the Games, if they make no money from advertising because of low ratings. Representatives of the VGTRK tele and radio corporation confirmed that the company would no be broadcasting the Winter Olympics if Russian athletes are suspended from the Games in South Korea...

Windows Update borks elderly printers in typical Patch Tuesday style

Microsoft's latest batch of software updates for Windows has been blamed for a mysterious ailment befalling some poor old Epson dot-matrix printers.

"I had two clients today whose Epson dot matrix printers stopped working after applying this month’s cumulative update on Windows 10 and Windows 7," one tipster told us. "It just seems to eat the print job."

Kaspersky: NSA Worker's Computer Was Already Infested With Malware

Refuting allegations that its anti-virus product helped Russian spies steal classified files from an NSA employee's laptop, Kaspersky Lab has released more findings that suggest the computer in question may have been infected with malware.

Moscow-based cyber security firm Kaspersky Lab on Thursday published the results of its own internal investigation claiming the NSA worker who took classified documents home had a personal home computer overwhelmed with malware.

According to the latest Kaspersky report, the telemetry data its antivirus collected from the NSA staffer's home computer contained large amounts of malware files which acted as a backdoor to the PC.

The report also provided more details about the malicious backdoor that infected the NSA worker's computer when he installed a pirated version of Microsoft Office 2013 .ISO containing the Mokes backdoor, also known as Smoke Loader.

Radical faction in the Ukraine Rada wants Ukraine out of Minsk talks

Deputies of the Verkhovna Rada from the faction of the radical party of Lyashko are preparing an appeal to President Poroshenko about getting Ukraine out of the Minsk negotiations on the settlement of the conflict in the Donbass. Deputy Ihor Mosiychuk from the radical party spoke about this on the air of the channel "112 Ukraine." "The faction will appeal to the president with a proposal to get out of participating in the so-called Minsk process." The negotiations in Minsk should be stopped because Belarus unequivocally took the side of the aggressor country, it is not a neutral country, and it is impossible to negotiate on its territory. Switzerland would be an intermediary and a peacemaker," said Mosiychuk. According to him, Ukraine is not obliged to implement the Minsk agreements, and the political process in the Donbass can be launched only after full "deseparatization"...

Czech president denounces EU's conduct on the Crimea situation

The European Union’s double standards on Crimea’s reunification with Russia are a bad practice, Czech President Milos Zeman said in an interview with TASS on Thursday. Putin Isn’t Interested in Helping America

Toward the end of his twelve-day trip to Asia, President Trump tweeted, “When will all the haters and fools out there realize that having a good relationship with Russia is a good thing, not a bad thing. There [sic] always playing politics — bad for our country. I want to solve North Korea, Syria, Ukraine, terrorism, and Russia can greatly help!”

Trump has a point. Russia can, in theory, “greatly help.” But it probably won’t, at least not “greatly.” It won’t help because Vladimir Putin and his regime don’t think helping America is in their national interest.

Putin, a former ghoul of the KGB, subscribes to a theory of statecraft with deep roots in both Russian and Soviet history.

(*the national review came to bury Putin , not to praise him . Astonishingly this article morphs Russia back into The Soviet Union , right beforeyour eyes)

Let’s Stop Glorifying War

When’s the last time our media covered war honestly? When’s the last time you saw combat footage of American troops under fire, or of American troops killing others in the name of keeping us safe from enemies? When was the last time you saw an American soldier panicking, firing wildly, perhaps killing members of his own unit (fratricide) or innocent civilians caught in the crossfire of war? Maybe in the 1960s during coverage of the Vietnam War?

War is not glorious. It may feature noble deeds and remarkable sacrifices, but it also features brutality and many other bloody realities. War breaks men (and women) down. It does so because war is unnatural. Yes, war is many things, but it most certainly is about killing. Occasionally, the killing is even necessary. (Just ask those enslaved by the Nazis or the Japanese whether they greeted Allied troops as liberators.)
